The new Siri chatbot may run on Google's servers, not Apple's.

Apple's improved Siri will be powered by Google's Gemini AI, which may mean the new Siri will run on Google's servers rather than Apple's own AI processing server, ' Private Cloud Compute ,' Bloomberg reported.

According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who is familiar with Apple's internal information, Apple and Google are considering running the new Gemini-powered Siri directly on Google's servers, rather than Apple's.
In iOS 26.4, scheduled for release after March 2026, Apple will release new features for Siri based on large-scale language models (LLMs), using AI models based on the previous generation of Gemini running on Apple's AI processing server, Private Cloud Compute.
Apple's Private Cloud Compute is a server that processes high-load tasks that cannot be processed on the device, and is committed to ensuring user security and privacy. The features of Private Cloud Compute are summarized in the article below.

However, the Siri chatbot included in iOS 27, which will be released after fall 2026, is scheduled to be based on the newer, smarter Gemini 3. However, it has been pointed out that running Gemini 3 requires a more powerful server than the existing Private Cloud Compute. Therefore, when using the new Siri chatbot, it may be necessary to go through Google's cloud infrastructure for each request.
Apple has promoted the use of Private Cloud Compute to protect the privacy of personal information stored on iPhones. However, technology media 9to5Mac points out that Private Cloud Compute was conceived under a previous regime. 'At the time Apple promoted Private Cloud Compute at WWDC 2024, it was never considered necessary to license Gemini from Google,' the company wrote.
9to5Mac also pointed out, 'Apple likely wants to run most of its AI processing on its own cloud rather than through a third party. However, it's clear that new Siri head Craig Federighi and former Apple Vision Pro development team executive Mike Rockwell prioritize practicality over idealism. There's no doubt that the pressure is on competitors to 'catch up' by getting the latest Siri features to users as quickly as possible, even if that means reversing some of their previously announced vision.'
9to5Mac points out that it would be easier for Apple to negotiate with Google to stop recording and storing sensitive user data and to isolate it from Google's advertising and data collection divisions than to build its own more powerful servers.
